Fred Zimmy, Past President

Fred Zimmy has served on the Park Lawn Board for more than twenty-five years. He currently holds the position of Past-President of Park Lawn Association. He first became aware of Park Lawn over forty years ago before it evolved from Southwest Association for Mentally Retarded People to Park Lawn. They heard about the association through an ad in the local paper. He is the father of Linda Zimmy, who is a participant at the Park Lawn Services Workshop and resides at Park Lawn Homes.
Fred worked for Illinois Lawn for over 35 years and retired in 1996 as General Manager. He wasn’t quite ready to sit back and relax yet and went to work for Neary Manufacturing as a sales manager for all of the United States. While there he trained several sales teams throughout the country until the company was sold. Still not ready to retire, Fred has worked for Simplex, Ideal, and Peerless out of Florida. He now is currently working on a part-time basis with his nephew on home remodeling. Fred is married and has four daughters, and two grandchildren. In his free time he enjoys flying, boating, camping, golf and motorcycling with “Big Bikes, Big Hearts” of course.
When asked what it means to him personally to serve on the Board, Fred says “I feel that by serving on the board I am able to help those who can’t help themselves. Also, I am thankful that I am able to serve and learn from this great experience. We have a great bunch of people at Park Lawn and when I feel down, I just need to look around and realize that I am the lucky one.”
